Reza Fani-Yazdi
Fani-Yazdi is a well-known researcher and political activist. His political activities began in his native Mashhad and reached their peak at the start of the Islamic Revolution, landing him in jail in 1981 with a death sentence that was eventually commuted to a 20-year jail term. He was freed after suffering six years of prison and torture.
